Literacy in Time: A Latin American Commitment

Event Description

Latin America is beginning to look toward the post-2030 development agenda while one of its most fundamental challenges remains unresolved: too many children reach the age of 10 without being able to understand a simple text. What is needed to ensure that all of them learn to read and comprehend on time?

Foundational literacy is much more than an educational challenge. It shapes the possibility of continuing to learn, of participating fully in society, and of developing fundamental capabilities throughout life. Yet despite the progress achieved in various countries across the region, learning poverty remains a structural challenge.

This high-level session will bring together leaders from multilateral organizations, philanthropy, and civil society to examine the progress made in Latin America, the challenges that persist, and the opportunity to place foundational literacy at the centre of the regional post-2030 agenda. Building on existing regional commitments and initiatives, the conversation will seek to explore how greater collaboration can translate this shared priority into sustained action.
