Built to Last: Investing in Education as Resilience Infrastructure

In an ever-changing, increasingly crisis-affected world, the necessity for ensuring resilient education systems has never been more important. Across crisis-affected contexts, governments are under pressure to digitalize education faster than systems can absorb, which can end up in tools that don't last, scale or help children learn.

The potential for inclusive digital transformation to strengthen the resilience of education systems in crisis contexts cannot be ignored. When conflict struck in Ukraine, Ukraine's Ministry of Education worked with Can’t Wait to Learn and partners, to co-create a game-based digital learning platform that is now formally part of the national education system, supporting 250,000 children to date throughout the conflict, and achieving proven improvements in foundational literacy and numeracy.

Drawing on real examples, including Can't Wait to Learn's work co-creating national digital learning platforms with Ministries of Education (for example Jordan, Ukraine, etc), speakers will share honestly about the decisions, trade-offs, and investments this way of working requires, and what it demands of governments, implementers, and funders alike.

This session goes beyond what has happened, to include what could happen. Bringing together the people responsible for successful digital transformation (the co-creator, the government officials, and the donors) to speak honestly about the decisions, the doubts, and the investments behind the model, and what it could mean for education systems in other contexts. We are inviting governments, educators, donors and changemakers looking to build resilient education systems to join us to talk about what comes next.

Audiences will leave with an understanding of what it takes to support system change in an emergency, and how this education model could take root in the countries and systems they know.
